ASME NSW would like to congratulate Suzanne Oyston, the winner of the 2015 Award for Excellence in Music Teaching. Suzanne is a distinguished and respected music educator who taught at St George Girls High School for a number of years. Throughout her career, she has worked to establish quality music programs, worked on various committees, championed music education for girls and taught at secondary and tertiary levels.
Her strong leadership in music and curriculum has seen her achieve considerable success, most recently with her appointment of Deputy Pricipal at one of Sydney’s key selective schools, North Sydney Girls High School. She believes it is important to have music educators working in executive roles to ensure music education continues to have an important place within the education system.
Suzanne joins a list of other esteemed music educators, including Karen Carey (2006) and Kim Waldock (2008).
