Mr Craig McGown

Craig McGown has initiated and driven remarkable breadth of opportunity for students at Erskine Park High School and for primary and secondary students across the whole Western Sydney region. His leadership, organisational skills and passion towards education and music education in particular have been apparent in his various roles as a classroom music teacher, a school concert band conductor / leader, a committee member on the PULSE Showcase in Excellence of Western Sydney Arts and as a Regional Arts Council member representing high school music teachers in the Western Sydney Region.
His tactful quest for continuous improvement and unceasing commitment to musical excellence are celebrated by students, colleagues and parents. He has overseen the development of a Gifted and Talented component in the band program, and is making use of technology to facilitate creative work and to extend learning outcomes in his classes. Craig promotes the achievements of Aboriginal students in Western Sydney and has supported these students in various ways, including providing opportunities for performances at regional events. Craig believes that through strong extra-curricular musical activities he can foster a love of music in students that is not always achievable at a classroom level.
As a teacher, leader, and practicing musician he has met the challenges of large comprehensive high schools with energy, reliability and an open mind.
